Malama Torches(TM)
In
1967 Malama Torches(TM) began lighting the Hawaiian night on the
grounds of the gracious Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. The unique
torches, designed by Native Hawaiian artist Donald Namohala
Yuen, soon were requested by discriminating businesses and
homeowners throughout Hawai`i. The torches were sold through
The Gas Company, which continues to be one of the top Malama Torch(TM) dealers in Hawai`i.
In
1998, Don's daughter, Leilehua Yuen, began apprenticing with
her father, learning his artistic and manufacturing
techniques. In 2004, Manu Josiah began learning the business
and helped to guide Malama Torches in a new phase of growth.
A major part of that growth came when Beachside Lighting and
Design began marketing the Malama Torches(TM), and suggesting
new designs and styles, including wall sconces and interior
lighting.
LeiManu Designs
After Manu and Leilehua married in 2005, LeiManu Designs was
conceived. In January of 2008, the new company was born.
LeiManu Designs continues to craft the original Malama
Torches(TM) designed by Don Yuen, and to add new designs and
products under the Malama Torches(TM) trademark. These unique torches and their designs are only manufactured by LeiManu Designs. No other company, physical or virtual, is licensed to manufacture Malama Torches(TM).
Currently Malama Torches(TM) and other LeiManu products are in
private homes and businesses throughout Hawai`i, North
America, Japan, and Australia. Among the venues enjoying
Malama Torches(TM) are the Mandalay in Las Vegas, the
Cheesecake Factory in
Honolulu, and the Hapuna Prince Hotel on Hawai`i Island.
