Bird of Paradise

The elegance of the exotic Bird of Paradise lends itself well to Malama Torch design. Another of Don Yuen's early designs, we think it evokes the spirit of the sultry Deloris DelRio.

     Although it is not endemic to Hawai`i, the bird of paradise is a popular landscaping plant in the islands. Its spectacular spathe and sepals are dramatic in the garden or cut arrangement. Since Deloris DelRio starred as a Polynesian princess in the movie, Bird of Paradise, it has evoked images of sensuality and romance.
