(Canoe)

Inspired by the voyages of her ancestors, Leilehua interprets the Polynesian sailing canoe on this Malama Torch.

The Polynesian sailing canoe is a seaworthy vessel. Able to sail close to the wind, it impressed Capt. James Cook and other European seamen with its craftiness and agility under sail and paddle. The canoe shaped the Polynesian people as much as the people shaped their canoes. A big "Mahalo!" to Capt. Kiko for all of his kokua as we learned about these craft of our ancestors.
